Ethics during the end of life in the hospital.

In the hospital settings we nurses encounter patients near the end of life. In the medical records the advanced directive is available, but does not transfer from unit to unit or hospital to another facility; in consequence  postponing the death of the patient. End of life documents should be a team work between nurses and doctors and of course computerize tools.
We nurses have the ethical duty to communicate with the patient, family and physicians about these issues and resolve any conflict between the patient and relatives. The health team should respect the person's values and wishes at the end of life by maintaining comfort and dignity.

Leadership Roles & Management Functions in Nursing

I taking a new class at UVU called Nursing Leadership and Development, I liked this class is a new area that I learning in my profession. Last week we discuss about requirements for successful leadership and management in the health arena. Mainly three requirements are imperative to become a good leader; and are decision making abilities, problem solving skills and critical thinking abilities. These all interrelate with each other. Also managers have to have courage, energy and creativity and of course use the scientific approach for problem solving. Myself I will like to develop those skills to be an excellent leader in my life and of course at my work.
